Fossil fuel divestment is one of the most exciting social movements of our time. On campuses all over the country, a growing chorus of voices is calling on university administrations to stop investing in the oil, coal and gas companies that are causing the climate crisis.
So far, though, one major voice has been largely absent from the divestment debate: alumni. Alumni can be a powerful force for change, and many want to get more involved in the divestment campaigns at their alma maters -- but don't know where to start!
We're hosting a gathering on May 27 for alumni of New England schools who are interested in fossil fuel divestment. This is the perfect opportunity to meet other alumni from your college or university, learn about ways to get involved, and get started planning events and actions!
We'll have food and mingling from 5:30 to 6:00 pm, with presentations and discussion starting right at 6:00 pm.
