Better Future Project is looking for an experienced and dynamic development professional with a passion for grassroots organizing, movement-building, and climate action to support the organization’s development function.  

Development Manager 

The Development Manager supports the daily administration of the development and special events function. The Development Manager supports the leadership team in raising the targeted annual fundraising goal This includes successful identification and actualization of funding sources, such as  major donors, foundations and grassroots supporters.  Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, the Development Manager  is also responsible for gift processing, donor stewardship and the daily management and maintenance of the donor database. The role is ideal for a detail-oriented, efficient, and self-driven professional who is looking to advance their career.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist in devising an annual plan for fundraising initiatives and calendar with input from the leadership team.
  • Identifying and qualifying prospective major donors; identifying new foundation leads.
  • Conducting major donor cultivation in partnership with the leadership team
  • Creates and maintains donor prospect profiles in the development database.  
  • Tracks and monitors donor and prospect movement to inform leadership on next steps for follow-up and cultivation, where necessary. 
  • Maintains and organizes donor and campaign solicitation materials, working closely with the marketing and creative team when edits/designed assets are needed.    
  • Manages the donor database to maintain data integrity and quality, including performing routine audits of constituency records and donor groups; documenting cultivation activity, insights, and solicitations; and identifying action steps.  
  • Develops queries, reports and mailing lists for fundraising campaigns, direct appeals, email campaigns, publications, fundraising events, and other projects.  
  • Oversees and facilitates all gift processing, including database entry, preparing, sending, and collecting completed pledge forms. 
  • Drafts, prepares, and distributes donor acknowledgment letters within a timely turnaround.  
  • Manages pledge tracking, revenue reports and expenses for all event fundraisers.  
  • Works to regularly update donor email lists in NationBuilder.   
  • Compiles regular reports of fundraising campaign performance and results.  
  • Prepares and sends weekly reports to accounting, development and executive-level staff on fundraising progress and pledge/payment updates to keep key decision-makers informed.     
  • Supports the coordination of all BFP events, Supports the preparation of invitations, Ad Journal, and other online and printed materials.
  • Additional duties as required.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES  

  • Education: Equivalent work experience or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., communications, nonprofit management, English)
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Work experience: At least 4 years’ work experience demonstrating higher levels of responsibility; at least 2-4  years’ direct fundraising experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience writing grant proposals
  • Proficiency with CRM systems; NationBuilder experience, a plus. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard office software, systems, and collaboration tools. 
  • Excellent level of detail and follow-through.  
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects. simultaneously and prioritize tasks while paying close attention to detail and accuracy.  
  • Ability to perform duties with a positive attitude.   
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Passion for grassroots organizing, movement-building and climate justice 
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to represent the organization and work collaboratively with diverse staff, volunteers, vendors, board members, and the public.  
  • Shows commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the BFP

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary Range $52,000 - $62,000 
  • BFP is participating in a 4 day work week pilot program

Schedule / Location 

This is a full time remote position with a typical schedule of Monday - Friday business hours, with some evenings and weekends, as needed. We are participating in a four day work week pilot where employees will work a 32 hour week for full compensation (40 hours).Preference may be given to applicants based in and around Cambridge, MA.
